It is a great deal better to live a holy life than to talk about it. Lighthouses do not ring bells and fire cannon to call attention to their shining-they just shine. -Moody
1 Peter 1:13-16 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
I was not raised and for you English majors, nor reared in church. I didn’t have the desire to learn John 3:16 until I received Jesus as my personal Saviour at age 22. I didn’t care what the Lord thought of me. I didn’t care what the Bible had to say about anything. I just didn’t care because I didn’t know God. I hope you get my point there. If not, here let me help you; I was lost and on my way to hell and I didn’t even know it. I didn’t want to bring honor and glory to God because I didn’t care.
One thing that I have always wondered is why some Christians want to bring their former music, former dress standards, or anything they had before they were saved that didn't bring honor and glory to the Lord before into the church. The music that we listen to doesn’t save us. The way we dress doesn’t save us. The only thing that saves us is humbling ourselves before a thrice holy God, repenting of our sin, and asking Him to save us from all our unrighteousness. Thus, accepting the free gift His Son provided on the Cross of Calvary. But why, why do we want to bring rock, dirty holey clothes, alcoholic beverages, and whatever else you would like to throw in the list into our churches? Be holy in ALL manner of conversation means, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Are we doing all for the glory of God or the glory of self?
