“No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few prayers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.”— Leonard Ravenhill
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
A friend shared the Ravenhill quote yesterday morning with me. Each Sunday morning he sends me a short message letting me know he is praying for me and the services at Calvary. That quote hit it home for me yesterday!
While this world is going to hell in a hand basket, we, the church of the living God, have the potential of truly making a difference! We have the road map in which we can bring our communities, our country, and the world we live in back to God. It begins with us! We must humble ourselves to God’s will— not my will but thy will be done, Oh God We must seek God’s face! Not just a quick 1,2,3 prayer like we do before a meal. A real, agonizing prayer that acknowledges our sin and the sin of our nation! Many people stop there. I see it on yard signs; humble and pray. However, we forget to turn from our wicked ways! We forget to turn from sin!
Child of God, the answer to this world’s problems is found when we get humble ourselves on our knees, crying our hearts out to the Lord in prayer, and turning from the wicked sinful life we have grown to love! Will you stand with many others who are making this a matter of prayer? Will you stand up for righteousness? Will you stand for holiness? Will you stand up for Jesus?
