WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR SOMETHING!
Patient waiting is often the highest way of doing God's will. -Collier
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1
When David cried out to the Lord he didn’t do as we do to the Lord today. He didn’t relentlessly pester the Lord, day after day. He didn’t question the Lord’s motives or His actions. David, patiently, waited on the Lord.
It would do you and me a great service to follow David’s lead in waiting. What do we need to wait on after we pray? Well, Pastor, wait on the Lord to give you the flock He wants you to have. Mom, wait on the Lord to give you the desires of your heart. Dad, wait on the Lord to give you the promotion you have worked so hard for. Single lady, wait on the Lord to give you the man of your dreams. Single man, wait on the Lord to give you the Proverbs 31 woman. High School student, wait on the Lord to open the next door of your life. College student, wait on the Lord to give you the career God wants you to have.
Waiting is hard, being out of the will of God is harder!
DOES YOUR WORDS FALL ON DEAF EARS AND YOUR WORKS ON WILLING HANDS?
Nobody will know what you mean by saying that God is love unless you act it as well. -Jacks
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 1 Corinthians 10:6
I don’t know about you but when I was growing up I heard the saying, “Don’t do as I do, do as I say do”, many times. When I saw my Dad drinking, I heard it. When I saw my Mom smoking, I heard it. When I saw my Dad struggling hard in sin, I heard it. But you know what, their words fell on deaf ears and their works on willing hands. You see our working example before our children, our co-workers, the world around us speak a whole lot louder that just a few empty words. Remember this morning Mom, Dad… Actions speak louder than words or better yet, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22
YES HE CAN HEAR YOU!
God keeps up a continual conversation with every creature. –Claudel
The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. Psalm 34:15
In World War 2 came a need to have secret communications. They didn’t have to look far to the somewhat unknown Navajo language. These Code Talkers took to the airways providing help to our service men’s movements and anticipated attacks. Where we could hear and understand them, the enemy could not and they provided vital help during one of our nation’s needed times.
In our time of need God will help because He hears our cries! He hears the cries of the lost for salvation. He hears the cries of the saved for peace, direction, help, hope, and so much more! There are two things that keep Him from hearing us; sin and silence. If you have unconfessed sin God will only hear the prayer of confession, Psalm 66:18. And obviously, if you don’t ask He will never answer your prayer, Psalm 54:2.
Lift up your voices this morning Christians! Lift them up high and let Him hear the desires of your heart! D.L. Moody said, “Sometimes a few minutes in prayer have done more for a man than two hours in talk.”
I’M GONNA LIVE FOREVER, I’M GONNA DIE, NO NEVER!
Being saved is a whole lot more than not going to hell; it’s living forever with Jesus!
The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.”Psalm 34:22
Have you ever sit down and thought about what redemption is all about? It’s not just that Jesus has saved you from hell, (which would be enough) but he has given you life and life more abundant! Those who have trusted Jesus as Saviour will never die (Spiritual Death) nor spend one second in hell! Friend, if you don’t have that blessed hope you need to search those scriptures once again and see where you missed the part about eternal life! (John 3:16)
How do you need to react to the Word of God?
No one ever graduates from Bible study until he meets the Author face to face. –Harris
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: James 1:18-19
In these verses I see that we need to react to the Word of Truth in three ways:
1. Swift to Hear—We should be prepared to hear the Word of God when read, when taught, when Preached, or even when sung!
2. Slow to Speak—We should only speak when the Word of God has penetrated our lives. Taking time to meditate on what was said.
3. Slow to Wrath—Instead of having a wicked response to the Word of God we better take the time to consider what the Word means in and to our life.
How you react to the Word will determine whether you live a victorious or defeated life!
