Finish

FINISH LINE IN VIEW

Setting our eyes toward Heaven gives us a renewed perspective that keeps our lives in focus to what matters most.

2 Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Paul was at the end of his life. Looking back, he reflected on how he lived his life. He fought the good fight until the end by keeping the faith. His faith was not in the thing of this world but Heavenly things; those things that mattered most. All of that was centered around his faith.

As you and I approach our finish line of this life, let us keep our eyes toward Heaven; reflecting on our past long enough to express what matters most—our faith in the finished work of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

FINISH WELL

It’s not the going out but the coming in that determines the success of a voyage.

2 Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

At the end of his life, under the inspiration of God, Paul pens this letter to Timothy to encourage him in the faith. Paul was in prison. Paul had been persecuted. Paul was really the one who needed encouragement but he found it more important to encourage the next generation rather that whine and complain about his own life. He wanted others to finish well!

Are you an encourager? Do you invest in others? Do you want to finish well? Get your eyes off your situation! Get your eyes on Jesus! Get busy serving Him like you once did! If you stop, your ship is sunk and others will say, he started well but didn’t stay the course! One last thing this morning friend, FINISH WELL!

PRESS ON

(Failure is) not the falling down, but the staying down. -Pickford

Psalm 40:12, For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.

The Psalmist David cries out in what seems to be his failure to escape the enemy. He cries out admitting his sin. He cries out of his weakness to the only One that can help. He cries out to the Lord! Why; because the Lord has delivered Him time and time again! And He will do it this time as well.

Friend, whatever you are going through, the Lord can get you through it. Turn to Him. Cry out to Him. Don’t give up, give in, or quit. PRESS ON! Read what David said just a few verses later: Psalm 40:17, But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

FINISH WELL

Lord, let us finish this life the way you did, sacrificially.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

How are we going to finish well? We will finish well if we lay aside every weight, anything that holds us back from doing what Jesus wants us to. We will finish well if we confess and forsake the sin that so easily besets us. We will finish well when we keep our eyes of the Lord Jesus! Keep them on His Word, His Work, and His Way.
