Compassion

BE COMPASSIONATE

Being compassionate involves others not self.

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 9:36

When you and I go out to this lost, dying, and hurting world with the Good News of the Gospel, we will see the results of living in sin. It will bring you to tears. It will bring you to your knees. It will move you with compassion!

It’s easy to sit in our air conditioned homes, driving our luxury cars, eating from the drive through menus, not doing anything for the Lord! I believe that’s why many will not lift a finger or open their wallets for the Lord! They are scared God will want them to get involved, leaving the comforts of home, giving to something bigger and better, getting their eyes off self and on someone else.

When we get out of our comfort zone, getting our hands dirty doing the work of the Lord, it’s hard not to have compassion!

COMPASSION IS MORE THAN WORDS!

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:15-16

While I agree the greatest thing we can give anyone is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I also believe sometimes we need to sustain their life so they can have an opportunity to repent and ask Jesus to save them! An, “I’ll pray for you” will fill the heart with joy and bring comfort but if someone’s belly is empty it would probably be best if you and I give them a bag full of groceries!

If you have an opportunity to help someone out, don’t just say, “I’ll pray for you”, do whatever you’re able to do!

CAN I BORROW SOME COMFORT?

Of all created comforts, God is the lender; you are the borrower, not the owner. -Rutherford

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

In all of the comforts God affords us we ought to give Him thanks. Thanks for the air we breathe. Thanks for the water we drink. Thanks for the Air Conditioning. Thanks for the cars we ride in. Thanks for the friends we have. Thanks, for the Word of God He has given. Thanks for the church to worship and pray. Thanks for the job He has given. We have a lot to be thankful for! If we ask for more comfort, according to God’s Word, He will give it!

RESTORE SUCH A ONE!

Hey unspiritual man, quit kicking sinners and saints when they are down!

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Galatians 6:1

So quick we are to kick a fellow believer when they are overtaken in sin. We berate them before other believers, avoid them like they are the plague, and to some extent encourage them to find another church. Where do we find any of that in the New Testament?

Pastor, Preacher, Evangelist, Deacon, Christian friend, instead of looking down your self-righteous nose, watching your NCIS, Criminal Minds, and every other sick perverted thing you watch on TV, please don’t kick anyone else before you begin searching within your own heart where you fall short. I am reminded of another portion of scripture this morning found in, 1 Corinthians 10:12, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”

MAMA'S DAY

The mother’s love is like God's love; He loves us not because we are lovable, but because it is His nature to love, and because we are His children. –Riney

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. Proverbs 31:10-11

On this Mother’s Day let us be thankful God gave us a Mother! She may not be your biological Mother but God gave her just the same! She has changed your diaper, put the band aid on your boo-boo, and helped teach you to drive! She has been there for you in the middle of the night and early in the morning! She is the greatest gift outside of our salvation we can have!

So, if your Mother is still alive, give her a big ole hug and kiss! Tell her you love her! If she has passed over into glory, remember her by raising your kids the very same way she did you! With great love, care, and compassion!
